Inside Our Rails CMS - Website Management

By Ryan Kopf - Aug. 07, 2008

I've decided that we're going to take you for an inside look at our custom made Content Management System, which manages all our static websites and can even be incorporated into the web applications we design for others. There are a number of useful features that we've made from scratch, all of which make keeping everything up-to-date a breeze for us. To start with, I'll talk about website management features. I could have begun with the email verification, user signup, profile creation, or friend management, but I thought I would start with the feature I personally use most often.

Rails Content Management System We have developed a perfect-fit website management program. Our administrators can log in to any of our websites, edit pages, add new pages, and update the layout at anytime with ease. Clicking on the "[Edit]" button shown in the picture will bring up an AJAX form allowing us to quickly make changes directly to the content of any page. We can update the layout the same way, to quickly implement fixes and updates site wide.

The fun part is, this system manages all our websites through one program, serving up all our pages and allowing them all to be edited quickly and easily. This saves us drastic amounts of time, because we only have one update system to have to work with. We can edit pages on our main website just as easily as any of our fun project websites. - Next time I'll tell you more about the news features that we've developed.
