Our Ruby on Rails CMS News Management

By Ryan Kopf - Jan. 14, 2009

I decided to take a moment to go over a little more of the features of our custom content management system. This system, which we programmed entirely from scratch using the Ruby on Rails framework, takes advantage of nearly every benefit of rails programming. Today, I'll talk about the news system.

Our news system is great. It's somewhat like a mixture of a blog system and a fully featured news management program. Users with the proper permissions can create a news channel, which can hold news items. Each news item is a post containing the title, text of the story, the author, and the date. It then links to the news channel, which people can view, or even search, publicly. Posts can be set for release on specific dates, too, allowing for simple and easy publishing of the next morning's news.

Editors can quickly edit news stories to fix errors or add updates to the story, with full control. Additionally, it's possible to link a picture gallery to a news story, which will be displayed in the news channel and linked to in the story.

Special Offer: Web design for January is discounted! Most six page websites will cost between $250-$300 this month only!

See you next time!
